Online tutoring is a relatively new way of teaching, but if you can see this page, you have the equipment (or at least most of it) and the skills to make effective use of it.
Advantages of online Tutoring
Traditional tutoring has been face-to-face, either in the Student's home or at the Tutor's location. Sometimes the tutoring session was held in a public place such as a library.
Unfortunately, nowadays the first two scenarios present problems of safety and security, both for the Tutor and the Student. It is a sad fact of modern life. And while meeting in a public place is considerably safer for both persons and reputations (and legal liabilities), it is very likely to be noisy and inconvenient, even downright difficult. For example, how many such places have readily available electrical outlets, even if they do have usable and safe wi-fi signals?
And so we come to online tutoring. It's both more convenient and safer. You stay in your own space using equipment and facilities familiar to you. You don't have to get dressed up. You don't have to go out. You don't have to spend time driving there or back. These advantages apply to the Tutor, too. It's a win-win situation.
ONE FREE 15-MINUTE SESSION is offered to new students to make sure the technology is working correctly on both ends and, we hope, allow us to determine whether there is a good "fit" between Student and Tutor.
(1) Read the Tutoring Policies that govern how the tutoring session works.
(2) Fill out the Student Setup online form, which sends necessary information (and no more) to the Tutor.
(3) Book a Tutoring Session Online. We try to keep the schedule up to date. Some tutoring sessions are also booked through a separate online service, and we try to block out those times on this service as they are booked. Since tutoring sessions are typically booked at least 24 hours in advance, this is usually not a problem.
And that's all there is to it!
